Apple iPhone 8 & 8 Plus are Here!
Apple has finally unveiled the eighth generation of its flagship iPhone device, and they will officially be called iPhone 8.
The iPhone 8’s design is based off the iPhone 7 in that it doesn’t look incredibly different than Apple’s previous handsets. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are similar in size to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, but they have new glass fronts and backs that nod to the glass construction of the iPhone 4. Both models are made with aerospace-grade aluminum and the glass is reinforced by steel. Also, this enables the new iPhones to have wireless charging. The speakers have a deeper sound, and are 25% louder.
The iPhone 8 models run Apple’s new A11 Bionic chip that has six cores and a 64-bit design. It’s divided into two high-performance cores and four low-performance efficient cores, with the regular cores being 25 percent faster than the previous A10 chip, and the high-performance cores being up to 75 percent faster than the A10 SoC. These are also the first phones with their new inhouse built GPU.
As for the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus’ camera, the 12 MP reportedly provides 83 percent more light and is more power efficient. An improved portrait mode is also being introduced, while a dual-camera feature known as “Portrait Lighting” is meant to sense the depth of an image and alter the lighting as you plan the shot. Apple also designed a video encoder, meant to have faster video frame rates, able to shoot in 4K 60 frames-per-second and 1080p 240 slow motion. Just for comparison, other 4K60 cameras cost upwards of $5000! The primary camera(s) have OIS now, even on the telephoto lens.
Cameras on the 8 and 8 Plus have also, according to Apple, been calibrated with augmented reality in mind, while new gyroscopes and sensors are also included for better AR play. They also have exclusive 3D filters for Snapchat. You can also simply point it at the sky, and the iPhone will show you all the details about the stars and the constellations around you!
Storage on the iPhone 8 now starts with at 64GB while the other variant has 256GB. The iPhone 8 is going to start at $699 for 64GB. The iPhone 8 Plus is going to cost $799 and more. Preorders start September 15, and deliveries start a week later. Users can update to iOS 11 starting September 19.
