Apple Watch Series 2 Announced with Swim Proof Design

Apple unveiled its second-generation smartwatch today at its annual mobile hardware event, and it is unsurprisingly called the Apple Watch 2. The device is very similar to its predecessor: it’s got a square, customizable watch face mostly for telling the time and displaying notifications; a single-day battery life; and a funky watch dial Apple calls the digital crown for scrolling and zooming. The biggest change, however, is a new water-resistant shell, which makes the watch swim-proof, according to Apple. The watch is water resistant upto 50 metres, and the speakers have been completely redesigned to eject water after a swim.

It’s a dual-core S2 processor that should be 50-percent faster than the original Apple Watch and, thanks to a 2x improvement in graphics performance, it should be able to run more powerful apps. Additionally, Apple is including a GPS chip, which will allow developers for apps like Viewranger (an app for hiking) to add tracking functions for folks who don’t want to bring their smartphones along.

The chip also helps power the new 1000nits Apple Watch display, which is the brightest screen ever included on an Apple product, Apple said.

Apple also highlighted a few statistics as to how they the first generation smartwatch has been a huge seller. Apple CEO Tim Cook said the product line became the No. 2 watch line by revenue just 18 months after launch, behind only Rolex products.

The Watch Series 2 will have Aluminum, Stainless Steel, and Ceramic (x4 Harder than Steel). The watch will run on WatchOS 3.

Alongside this, there is Apple Watch Nike+ partnership with Nike. It is said to be a perfect running partner, and even asking Siri to start tracking is enough to start the run and its tracking.

The price for the Apple Watch Series 2 is starting from $369. What about the first gen. Apple Watch? that is getting renamed to Apple Watch Series 1, with the change of processor as the dual-core processor powering it now, and the price of the Series 1 is $269.

Both the watches will be available on pre-order from September 9th, and the availability is from September 13th.
