CREO Mark 1 launched in India for ₹19,999

The long awaited Indian startup, CREO has finally launched it’s flagship Mark 1 today in Delhi. The company for the past few days had been aggressively advertising the launch event and teased us with it’s “A new phone every month” tagline. The device has been finally launched and has some really unique software features, with regular monthly updates being the highlight.

The device runs on a MediaTek Helio X10 Octa Core Processor clocked at 1.95Ghz bundled with 3GB RAM and 32GB Internal Storage. It has a 5.2″ LCD QHD Display with 534ppi density and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. The main camera is 21MP Shooter with Sony Sensor and can record Slow Motion videos at 120fps Full HD. It can also shoot 4K videos and has dual tone flash. The front camera is 8MP shooter and has 86 degrees of field of view. For latest connectivity, the device is 4G enabled and Dual SIM.

The design is little on the premium side with slim contours, sturdy metallic frame made of aluminium and magnesium alloy and rounded 2.5D Gorilla Glass. We can also engrave a message on the device when ordered from CREOSense. Otherwise the device will be exclusively available from Flipkart.

Moving on the software, CREO has integrated a lot of new and useful features into FuelOS. FuelOS is CREO’s custom skin running on top of Android. CREO has announced that new features will be available OTA every month, the next update rolling out on 13th of May.

The features to be implemented can be chosen by the users by voting in a poll, according to the communities feedback the features will be released in the next update. Which means the whole update roll out will be run by the community for the community.

Out of the box FuelOS has some really neat features like:

  • Sense: With Sense, you can get to anything on your phone in 2 steps or less; whether it’s a phonebook contact, an app or that mp3 file you downloaded the other day. Type what you want and Sense will find you a way to get there quicker. Go from hungry to pizza in 2 steps or less.

    • Retriever: It is foolproof in detecting theft. It automatically triggers alerts to your Email ID anytime a new SIM is inserted in your Mark 1. The best part: it works without an active internet connection and even after a factory reset. If it’s unstealable, it’s yours forever.

    • Echo: It answers your calls for you when you can’t. Don’t send that “In a meeting, call you later.” text to people you care about; let Echo answer your calls with a personalized greeting in your own voice. Your new personal assistant, Echo works without Internet.

  • Messaging: It sorts your messages into sensible categories like texts from people you know, business messages or spam. It is an SMS inbox for a cleaner texting experience. Messages you no longer wish to see again can be marked as spam. Say goodbye to unwanted promo offers & sale alerts with customizable spam detection.

The Device will be available for INR 19,999 and first 2,000 customers to book the device will get engraving for free. CREO has also announced that more than 100 service centers are now available in the country already and the number shall grow. Given the price point, the device surely is very competitively priced and will give some tough competition to Xiaomi Mi 5 which starts at INR 25,000. One thing we miss though is a Fingerprint Scanner.  With Marshmallow having native support for fingerprint scanner it sure would have been a great addition.

India is a developing market where the consumers are very price sensitive. The company hasn’t listed anything about expandable storage on their site, so we are assuming there is none. This might turn out to be a huge drawback in the market because Indian Consumers are obsessed with SD Cards.

We shall publish an in-depth review of the device once it is published. Stay tuned to EOTO!
