Everything We Know About The Upcoming OnePlus 5T
Now that we are done with every major flagship release of 2017, let’s talk about the unusual entry of a Chinese OEM, OnePlus. Last year, OnePlus followed up the OnePlus 3 smartphone with OnePlus 3T. At that time, the 3T felt like a one-time announcement rather than a proper new line-up, similar to OnePlus X in 2015.
A couple weeks ago, the rumors about OnePlus 5T started surfacing online and later the company itself confirmed the news about it. Since then, OnePlus in its usual style started teasing us with features or may I say the lack of.
For starters, the 5T will keep the headphone jack. Hurrah! But may shy away from wireless charging, for which the company blames on current inconvenient implementation and slow charging compared to the traditionally wired Dash Charge.
The specs includes a 6-inch Full HD Samsung made (Sorry LG!) AMOLED panel with 18:9 aspect ratio, putting it more in line with the competition. And due to small bezels and chins, the fingerprint scanner has been moved back. The RAM, Storage, CPU (Qualcomm Snapdragon 835), and dual-rear camera setup (20MP+20MP) will remain the same. And you know what else is getting borrowed from OnePlus 5? Price. Yes, the 5T may cost as much as its predecessor at launch. The 5T will be powered by Android Oreo out of box.
There has been a lot of uproar from the current OnePlus 5 users just like last year, who are disappointed with the fact that their ‘flagships’ shall be succeeded in less than a year. Samsung has long been known to follow the same launch format of releasing two flagships per year, the S and Note series. Though it should be kept in mind that the two have a lot of distinction in terms of target audience as well as overall offerings. OnePlus has long been known to offer the most for the buck and is now trying to go after flagships launched in the second half of 2017. This means that the device is aimed at taking on Note8, Pixel 2 XL, LG V30 and to some extent the new iPhone’s.
The official announcement is bound to happen on 16th November and the interested consumers can grab one in preview sale on 21st Nov while the general availability will start from later this month. We know from confirmed sources that OnePlus shall be having a media launch on 16th November in India while general sales are expected to start from 23rd.
