Everything about the OnePlus 5, with dates!
We are really close to the launch of the next Flagship killer and so I decided to make a little compilation of all the official news and some of my speculations for the OnePlus 5.
The phone will be called as the OnePlus 5. They skipped 4 because it’s considered to be ill omen in Chinese, and has got nothing to do with the 3T replacing the 4.
OnePlus has usually put the first mainstream phone in the market with the RAM and CPU configuration (OnePlus 2 was the first SD810 +4GB, OnePlus 3 was the first SD820 + 6GB). So, just came out today, via Amazon.in that the OnePlus 5 will have 8GB of Ram, along with the Snapdragon 835 (for the record, the Samsung Galaxy S8 has just 4GB of Ram)
The camera is supposed to get a big step forward. Firstly, all rumours point towards a Dual lens setup on the back. Secondly, they are working with DxOMark to improve the optics. Third, the teaser image suggests that we will get a telephoto lens for optical zoom (like the iPhone 7plus).
And also, today the CEO shared an image clicked by the OnePlus 5 which shows amazing low light imaging. The ISO seems to be very low, along with a wide f1.8 aperture
Other rumours state that this phone will be the thinnest OnePlus device till date, which makes me worried about the battery. People wanted the OnePlus 3 to have a bigger battery instead of a thin phone. let’s hope Dash Charge 2.0 makes a debut. The display will be a 5.5″ AMOLED panel, but resolution could stay at 1080p. Expect the matte black colour variant to be more widely available….
Launch dates, pricing, and availability.
The Global launch is scheduled for 20th of June, which can be live streamed on their YouTube channel. Other countries will get pop up launches after that. The Indian launch will be happening on the 22nd of June, in Mumbai. They have booked a very big venue, so I expect a huge footfall and surprises. To be able to attend this event, you will have to buy a ticket to get invited to this event, from onepplusstore.in, 12th June onwards.
The event invites will cost INR999, which gives you an invite for the phone, and some goodies and other gifts, along with a discount. https://oneplusstore.in/launch2017
Pricing should be close to the OnePlus 3T, coming in at around $450. If there’s a higher storage variant, then the price will increase further. Considering how much they have spent on Marketing recently, there’s a chance that the price will increase considerably over the INR35,000 price tag.
Availability should start within a few days of the launch. Normally, it’s a week. In India, Amazon will handle the sales, and they are suggested to start 22nd June onwards. Select fans will be able to buy it at the launch. Keep an eye on the new referral program started for long term users.
