iPhone no longer the best selling smartphone in China

Since 2012, Apple’s iPhone has been the best selling smartphone in China. But 2016 changed that. The local companies captured the top four spots in the previous year and that ultimately resulted in Oppo R9 replacing iPhone as the new king in China.

According to counterpoint, Oppo, Vivo, Huawei and Xiaomi captured first four places in the Chinese market, pushing Apple to 5th spot. The company loses steep 4% in 2016 with recent quarter witnessing 3% decline despite new iPhone launch.

Apple managed to ship 12 million iPhones in China last year with iPhone 6S grabbing the bigger pie. On the other hand, Oppo sold total 17 million R9 smartphones. The company released total four variants of the product, R9 and R9 Plus in Q1 and upgraded it to R9S and R9S Plus in last quarter.

The Chinese company recently unveiled Red variant of R9 in the country. The company is expected to launch the upgraded model of R9 soon.
