Jio Customer Database with 120 Million Users Data Breached

Today a link to a website named magicapk emerged online which displays data from Jio’s Customer Database. All you need to do is enter the users mobile number, and details like their registered Name, Email, Circle and SIM Activation Details are exposed. There is an option for Aadhaar Number as well, but we haven’t been able to see it functional.

I tried this out by entering my number, to which all precise details were returned back. To verify the authenticity, I also tried a few more numbers of my known associates, which also returned back accurate results. We aren’t sure yet how this new website obtained the user database, and are awaiting a statement from Reliance Jio for the same.

Often the results would return back as null and on multiple refreshes it did finally show up. If this indeed is a deep internal breach or leak, It’ll be one of the largest data breaches to happen in India. We aren’t sure whether all the users of Jio (more than 120 Million) are affected or only a few sets. I also tried a WHOIS search on the given domain, which too returned a null value because the details have been kept private.

Soon after the website was discovered, Jio shared this statement:

“We want to assure our subscribers that their data is safe and maintained with highest security. Data is only shared with authorities as per their requirement. We have informed law enforcement agencies about the claims of the website and will follow through to ensure strict action is taken.”

We shall continue covering this breach in detail as and on we have more details. For users protection, we are refraining from directly sharing the link to the website displaying the sensitive data.
