Jio’s Happy New Year Offer brings extended Free Services till 31st March

Existing and new Reliance Jio users will be able to use data, voice, video and all of Jio’s applications for free until March 31, 2016. All existing customers who already have free service until December 31, 2016, will see this deal extended to them from January 1 to March 31, 2017, and all new customers can avail of this deal from December 4, said Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani in an announcement today.

Under the New Year Offer, a cap of 1GB Data usage per day will be applicable, on crossing the threshold, data speeds will be reduced. Though you will be able to opt for booster packs at a nominal rate. Currently under the Welcome Offer, Jio offered 4GB data per day, which will be in place until the end of this year.

Jio now fully supports Mobile Numer Portability (MNP). All customers can retain their existing number when they migrate to Jio. This is being progressively launched across India through MyJio and will be available in top 100 cities by December 31, 2016.

Jio signed up 6 lakh customers every single day in past 3 months. Jio crossed 50 million customers (52 million). Only 8% towers experienced congestion. 92% towers experiencing high data speed. Company working to decongest 8% towers

Starting December 5, Jio Money Merchant Solution will be launched. Digital transactions of all types for small shopkeepers and customers will be supported with this services. Customers can pay from bank accounts.

In the past few months, the network was facing severe call connection issues due to insufficient Points of Interconnections. Though lately this issue seems to be fixed now, and call have minimum error. Jio is the only telco in India that offers VoLTE to make calls, Jio is targetting 100 million in the shortest time, equivalent to about 38% of market leader Bharti Airtel’s 260 million subscribers in the country.

The new extension of the offer is aimed at luring data hungry Indians to opt for Jio. To some extent, the strategy has been working well. People are signing up in hoards, while the growth rate of Jio is enormous. What has to be seen is, whether this user base continues to stick with Jio (now that MNP too is coming), or leave it after the offers are gone.
