LG G5 launched in India, priced at ₹52990

LG Electronics India Limited (LEGIL) launched their flagship phone, G5 on Wednesday. Priced at ₹52,990, the first ever modular smartphone from LG, comes with a sleek metal uni-body featuring a slide out battery, accompanied with LG friends, a collection of companion devices such as LG CAM Plus, LG 360 CAM and LG 360 VR.

The G5 has a modular design that allows you to swap out the base with other attachments, such as the LG CAM Plus camera grip or the LG Hi-Fi Plus module by B&O, the latter of which is not available in India. The Hi-Fi Plus module, co-developed by LG and Bang & Olufsen, is a portable Hi-Fi DAC which can be used as a standalone portable DAC or with the G5 to enable 32-bit audio playback. The company also launched LG 360 VR headset at ₹21,990, and the LG 360 Cam at ₹21,490. No other accessories, such as the LG Rolling Bot, LG Tone Platinum, H3 by B&O Play, and LG Smart Controller were launched alongside. The battery in each of these modules is removable and user replaceable.

G5 also has a 5.3-inch, 1440p display, Snapdragon 820, 4GB RAM, 32GB expandable storage, dual rear camera with 16 megapixel main camera and 8 megapixel wide angle camera, 8 megapixel front camera, Type-C connector, fingerprint sensor, and 2800mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0.

G5 will be exclusively available on Flipkart. Commenting on the pre-booking response, Ajay Yadav, VP-smartphones, Flipkart said:

“The reaction has been great so far, and we expect the product will be a hit among our customers.”

Flipkart is also offering free battery and charging cradle with the phone, along with exchange offer and zero interest EMI. Speaking of the competition, G5 has to face Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Also, LG’s G4 can make the game difficult for its new rival.
