This May be Fitbit’s New Smartwatch
Fitbit’s rumored smartwatch is supposed to be available by the holiday season, which means we should not only have an official idea of what the device looks like soon, but also lots of leaks along the way.
Wareable has obtained images of the smartwatch, giving us a no-holds-barred look at Fitbit’s next big device. Wareable understands from a source close to the inner workings of Fitbit that we’re looking at the finalised version of the smartwatch-cum-fitness tracker, which is set to launch later this year.
There’s a huge heart rate sensor on the underside of the watch, and the watch will also feature GPS and water resistance up to 50 meters. Wareable speculates the heart rate sensor may use a unique pulse oximeter to measure how much oxygen is in the user’s blood, as well as a red sensor to provide a more accurate heart rate. We can also see three buttons — two on the left and one on the right — in a similar setup to the Fitbit Blaze.
Currently Apple Watch leads the smartwatch market while there are a plethora of Android Wear options available. Xiaomi too has been making a lot of progress in the lower end Smart Band segment. Honestly, I hated these renders. The watch looks pretty thick and the overall make is not at all exciting. Last year, Fitbit acquired Pebble which has long been known for it’s robust Operating System and simplistic yet practical designs.
With Pebble’s technology, the company says it’ll have multiple apps available at launch with plans to offer a third-party “app gallery” where users can find iOS and Android-compatible apps.
