Nexus 2016: HTC built ‘Marlin’ Specs Leak

Just like 2015, this year too, Google shall be releasing two new Nexus Devices. One high end, and one mid range. Earlier, specifications of HTC built ‘Sailfish’ had leaked, and now the big brother HTC Marlin has showed up!

The folks over at Android Police are very confident that this leak is genuine and claim to have enough proof t0 base their claim. Unfortunately, they are not able to share direct evidence from their sources, both due to the sensitive nature of that evidence and the way in which it will portray them.

Here’s what they know so far:

  • Manufactured by HTC
  • Quad-core Qualcomm processor
  • 5.5″ QHD (2560×1440) AMOLED display
  • USB-C port
  • 12MP rear camera, 8MP front
  • Rear-mounted fingerprint scanner
  • 4GB RAM
  • 3450mAh battery
  • Bottom-firing speakers
  • 32/128GB of storage
  • Bluetooth 4.2

We believe that there will only be two storage models – 32 and 128GB, with no 64GB in between them. We also believe, though are not certain, that the same will be true of Sailfish’s storage configuration. We have good reason to think that Sailfish and Marlin will likely have the same cameras, RAM, and CPUs as one another. At this time, we just aren’t certain what that CPU is – be it a revised Snapdragon 820, or the rumored 821 or 823. There’s simply not enough for us to go on right now. – Android Police

The is a very similar strategy that Apple has been using lately with their iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Even last year, the Nexus 5X was a mid range affordable Nexus manufactured by LG while the 6P was the beefier one made by Huawei. By going this route, Google can offer users more options to chose from fitting their needs and further diversifying their portfolio.

It is also believed that because Marlin and Sailfish shall be made by HTC, the design language shall be very similar on both of them.

What do you think about the specs? We are pretty satisfied. 4GB RAM on a top end is acceptable, especially when the Software has been well optimised by the founder of Android. All the Nexus devices until now have been perfectly built keeping in mind the pricing. Nexus 5 was a huge success, Nexus 5X too followed the trend and we hope this time too they’ll impress us!
