This OnePlus smartwatch never saw light of the day
OnePlus, a China based company that is known to make “Flagship Killer” phones at budget prices, once was working on a smartwatch but decided against it. This news came to light when OnePlus founder and CEO Pete Lau admitted OnePlus shelved a smartwatch it was working on, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on smartphone market saturation.
“We have to be focused,” he said.
The co-founder Carl Pie shared some design sketches of the watch on Twitter which says “what could have been but will never be”, which confirms that OnePlus is still not planning on entering the smartwatch segment anytime soon.
The sketches indicate that the watch would have resembled Moto 360 in many ways with easy band-swapping.
A lot of people seem to appreciate OnePlus’s wise decision of not getting into a wearable market where already big giants are struggling to make an impact. After all, it has been a rollercoaster ride for the company in the smartphone segment with whole invite system, and a smartwatch right now would have been too much to deal with for young Chinese company.
Nevertheless, we do want to see OnePlus with their own smartwatch in the near future. Tell us about your opinion in the comment section below.
