Pixel 2 Leak Suggests Always on Display, IP68 Resistance and More
Pixel 2 rumours have been flowing in for the past few months, and now we have a new low-res image image of the upcoming smaller Pixel 2. Coming from 9to5Google, the images have been heavily blurred out to protect the sourcing site of the leaks. It’s unknown if this color “slate gray” color will be shipped when the Pixel 2 is first launched, though the leak does claim that this color version of the Pixel 2 is being tested internally.
Previous leaks that we’ve seen suggest that the device will come in Aluminium Black body along with a Black Glass on the back just like the original Pixel. As far as storage is concerned, it is safe to assume from previous reports that both 64GB and 128GB models do exist. It is also possible that 64GB variant could be the base, while the 128GB variant shall be the top tier one.
The front shall continue to have slightly thick bezels along with having a 4.97-inch 1920 x 1080 display. Unlike the current market trend of having minimal to bezel-less phones, Google seems to have chosen the unattractive yet practical path. Sadly, multiple leaks and reports have suggested that Google shall ditch the popular 3.5mm jack.
Also, 9to5Google claims that the Pixel 2 will have better water and dust resistance compared to the first Pixel phone, but it’s unclear if it will get a IP68 rating. There will also be an always-on option for the ambient display. The current Pixel’s ambient display is off unless you pick up the device or double tap the display when off.
Reportedly, Google will launch a new suite of hardware products, including the Pixel 2 and the larger Pixel 2 XL on October 5.
