Pixel Smartphone by Google Announced
After tons of leaks, Google’s new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones are now finally official. Differentiated primarily by the size and resolution of their screens — 5-inch 1080p display on the Pixel and 5.5-inch Quad HD panel on the XL — these two devices are built by HTC, but Google stresses on the point that it has completely designed the device.
The rear of the device is a combination of glass and metal with a fingerprint reader smack dab in the center, along with an antenna band along the bottom and Google’s new “G” logo along the bottom.
Pixel is the first phone with the new Google Assistant built in. You can ask questions and, thanks to Google’s Knowledge Graph, can continue providing information based on your initial search. In a demonstration, Google Assistant brought up (and rattled off) a list of events from the Hearst Greek Theatre in response to a query about happenings there. Then, when asked to play music by The Lumineers, the helper brought up a YouTube video of the band’s music and automatically started playback. You can also ask Assistant to show you your pictures from a specific date, and it will return images that match the criteria.

Google said the Pixel has already been tested by DXOMark and that it received a rating of 89, the highest rating ever from DXOMark for a smartphone. It features a 12.3MP f/2.0 aperture with 1.55 micron pixels, which allows it to capture more light. Google will allow free unlimited storage for full-resolution images and videos shot with the Pixel. Yes, it’s the same cloud storage that you find in the Photos App, but now, there’s no storage limit, not even for 4K videos.
The new flagship is powered by a quadcore Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM and a decently sized 2770mAh battery, which can quick charge up to seven hours in 15 minutes The Pixel ships with 32GB of storage standard, which users can choose to quadruple up to 128GB. There’s a USB-C port on the bottom of the device, and the device also has a headphone jack wink! 🙂
Google has also built in 24-hour live phone support right into the Pixel’s software, so that a tech support operator can see exactly what’s on your screen and thus help you better.
The Pixel is the first Daydream-compatible phone and Google today also announced the Daydream View headset to accommodate the Pixel for VR use.
Pricing starts at $649 for the smaller 5-inch Pixel, available for preorder today. The device will be exclusively available from Verizon in the USA and will be coming to other markets soon. The device will launch in India on 13th October, and should be available on Flipkart, Croma and Reliance Digital.
