Q1 2017: Samsung clinches No.1 title from Apple in smartphone race
It seems that Samsung is finally recovering from the Galaxy Note 7 debacle. The explosive flagship makes a big dent in Samsung’s smartphone sales in Q4 2016 and as a result, Apple with its iPhone 7/7Plus combo emerges as a clear winner with 20.3% market share, edging out Samsung’s 18.5% figure.
Now that we are in April, the Q1 2017 results are out. And unsurprisingly once again Samsung gains the first spot in smartphone sales. The report suggests that the low-end and mid-range smartphones helped the Koran giant to move past 26% market share. The economically priced Galaxy J series contributed more than ever.
The list goes on with no major change. Apple slides at 2nd, Huawei at 3rd and Oppo and Vivo at 3rd and 4th place respectively.
Samsung is all set to release Galaxy S8/S8+ worldwide on 21 April. The sales numbers may reflect in Q2 results, and if the early reports are to be believed, the margin between two rivals should widen more.
