Report: Galaxy S8 and S8+ to outsell Galaxy S7/S7 Edge
Samsung is betting big on upcoming Galaxy S8/S8+ and why not, after the Note 7 fiasco, the company aims to hit back at rivals to regain the top spot in premium device offerings.
A new report coming out from South Korea suggests that Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ may outsell its predecessor. Analysts estimate that Samsung was able to move close to 50 million units of Galaxy S7 series in 2016, a solid improvement over Galaxy S6/S6 Edge performance of 45 million strike rate.
Galaxy S7’s healthy run was supported by two factors. First, it came out in February and was available to buy in mid-March. And second, the Note 7 debacle helped some percentage of potential buyers to go for Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge. Meaning, the Galaxy S7 series got a long 13 months run as an only flagship offering from Samsung.
On the other hand, Galaxy S8/S8+ is already late for market and the upcoming Note device may steal the thunder and sales from its brother. So that leaves Samsung a mere 6-7 months to deliver the asking numbers.
Can Samsung move past the magical figure of 50 million? What are your thoughts about the report? Sound off in comments.
