Samsung ditches Android Wear in favor of home based Tizen OS

It’s been two years since Samsung launched its first and only smartwatch Gear Live that runs on Google’s Android Wear platform.

After exceptionally well executed Tizen powered Gear S2, one maybe wondering if the Korean giant will ever release an Android Wear version of it or any new wearable that runs on Google’s software. And unfortunately we have some bad news to share here.

According to Samsung executives, the company doesn’t have any Android Wear products in pipeline and also they don’t have any intention to build it in future. Instead, they are going with their own Tizen OS. That really makes sense as Samsung smart TVs, refrigerators and current wearables also runs on Tizen. Samsung also feels that battery life is one of the most important aspect of a smartwatch experience and their Tizen OS is more battery friendly than Android Wear.

For me, I was personally looking forward to Android Wear version of Gear S2. So, what about you? Are you disappointed with the announcement? Share your views in comments section.
