Samsung Pay may arrive in India in H1 2017
Samsung’s mobile payment service ‘Samsung Pay’ is already available in South Korea, US, Australia, Brazil, Singapore, and more. And if the recent rumors are true, India will be added to that list soon.
SamMobile reports that Samsung may announce its payment service in India sometime in H1 2017. Currently, no other payment services like Android pay or Apple Pay are available in India. Part of the reason is, India currently lacks NFC-equipped Point of Sale devices and here is where Samsung Pay shines. The MST functionality built-in Samsung Pay can allow it to use at any terminal that accepts debit and credit cards.
Here is another reason too. The Government of India’s recent move to demonetize Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes have spiked usage of plastic money and mobile wallets like Paytm, Mobikwik, and Freecharge. This could be the golden opportunity for Samsung to advertise and take lead in mobile payment services.
Galaxy S8 is speculated to launch sometime in April 2017. And this is when we can expect the tech giant to debut Samsung Pay in India.
