Samsung poured tons of money mussel behind an on-screen fingerprint scanner for Galaxy S8
Everyone would agree that the Galaxy S8/S8+ are the best smartphones when it comes to aesthetics. Over the years, Samsung has mastered the art of producing stunning glass-metal sandwiched combo. With Galaxy S8 series, the tech giant finally decided to wave a goodbye to the physical home button. And that results in finding an alternate position for a fingerprint reader.
The Investor reports that Samsung closely worked with Synaptics to develop the fingerprint reader beneath the display, so the consumer can use the whole display to unlock the phone, making the process pretty seamless. Unfortunately, Synaptics ran short of time and failed to evolve it for a mass production. That forced Samsung to relocate the fingerprint reader at the back, which ultimately marks the only negative aspect about the device.
“Samsung poured resources into Synaptics’ fledgling technology last year, but the results were frustrating. With the production imminent, the company had to decide to relocate the fingerprint scanning home button to the back of the device at the last minute”, said an anonymous source to the Investor.
Maybe with the upcoming Note device, Samsung and Synaptics succeed at with this development. Nevertheless, the days are not far when the user can unlock the smartphone just by hovering the finger on screen.
