Samsung Galaxy S8 Launched in India, Available for Pre-Order

Samsung has launched their new flagships, the S8 and S8+ in India today.

One of the most visually appealing feature of the new devices is a large Infinity Display, a bezel-less, dual-edge display that takes up more than 80 percent of the phone’s front screen. The fingerprint scanners location has been changed for the first time in the S series and the device is also water resistant. This time round though, you can actually take the device for a swim!

Samsung revealed a few days ago that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are proving to be way more popular than last year’s Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Within just a few weeks of the pre-orders going live, Samsung has recorded a “double-digit growth” over Samsung’s Galaxy S7.

The flagships are the first ones to run Bixby, Samsung’s own Contextual AI.   The phone has a dedicated button to launch the assistant, but Samsung says that its initial capabilities will be limited to a handful of preinstalled apps, with others added over time. It will also be limited to just English and Korean at first, though there are plans to add other languages such as Chinese and US Spanish shortly after launch.

The devices are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor in the U.S and Samsung’s own 3.0 GHz Exynos 8895 processor in other regions including India alongside 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage expandable via a microSD card (up to 256GB).

Both models come with a 12-megapixel rear camera with OIS and an 8-megapixel snapper on the front. Other connectivity options includes 4G LTE support, WiFi, Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C, NFC and GPS. Also, among a host of sensors, S8 and S8+ offer heart rate sensor for the health conscious. The variants support wireless and quick charging as well.

The Galaxy S8 sports a 3,000 mAh battery and weighs 155 grams, while the Galaxy S8+ comes with a 3,500 mAh battery and weighs 173 grams. Lastly, both smartphones come with facial recognition support, an Iris scanner, Samsung Knox, IP68 dust and water resistance, Samsung Pay and earphones tuned by AKG.

Samsung also announced DeX, it is a new service that lets users use their smartphone like a desktop by providing a seamless, secure mobile to PC transition. Currently compatible with Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, Samsung DeX provides an Android-based, desktop-like experience that enables users to seamlessly access mobile apps, edit documents and browse the web.

The device will be available for pre-0rder on Flipkart from 3PM today. Those who pre-book will be eligible to redeem a free convertible wireless charger that comes with fast charging support.

The device will go on sale from 5th of May, the S8 will retail at ₹57,900 while the S8+ will retail at ₹64,900. S8 and S8+ users shall also get a special offer from Reliance Jio.
