Samsung’s Tizen OS clinches second spot from Android Wear, Apple WatchOS remains at top
Whether smartwatches are useful or a dumb tech gimmick, is still debatable. But one thing for sure, the tech giants are seeing huge potential in it and continue to invest in the wearable platform.
The recent report from Strategy Analytics reveals some interesting numbers in terms of market share. Samsung’s Tizen OS edges out Android Wear with 19% of share. It’s quite surprising given how many partners Google have to utilize the platform while Samsung is battling out with only two models – Gear S2 and Gear S3. And of course, Apple sits at the top with 57% share.
The recent delays to roll out Android Wear 2.0 allowed Tizen OS to take the lead. Also, the fact that many OEMs like Motorola, Sony and LG refused to come out with updated model hurt the wearable platform more. Only Huawei came with Huawei Watch 2 and that too faced a slow response from reviewers and consumers.
