Telegram update brings in self-destructing images and improved photo editor
Secure messaging app Telegram is becoming a little more like Snapchat. The Telegram team on Sunday released a new version of the app (4.2), which includes a self-destruct timer for photos and videos, a new bio feature for profiles, plus speed and sticker improvements.
With Telegram v4.2 update, the company says that users will be able to edit their photos quicker and in fewer steps than earlier. Moving on to the disappearing media, the company said in its blog post, “If you set a timer, the countdown starts the moment your recipient opens the photo or video you sent. After the time runs out, the photo/video will disappear forever, just like in Secret Chats.”
In the situation where the recipient tries to take a screenshot of the media with self-destruct timer, you will get a notification right away. The update for iOS and Android is already available on both App Store and Google Play respectively.
Besides that, you can also now add a bio to your Telegram profile. Just head over to Settings and type a few words about yourself. “Every time you stumble upon new users in large groups you might want to learn more about them,” the team wrote. “That’s where bios can help.”
And finally, this update promises to make the app a lot speedier. Telegram now relies on a distributed network to cache publicly-available photos and videos posted in channels with 100,000 or more members. “This will result in significantly higher download speeds for tens of millions of Telegram users around the world,” the team wrote.
