TRAI releases MySpeed, Speed Test App
TRAI has launched a mobile app called MySpeed (TRAI) for Android smartphones to aggregate network quality information. This will hopefully provide consumers, policy makers and telecom service providers a nationwide high quality database of signal quality and network speeds.
“The MySpeed App, which could be downloaded from the mobile sewa app store, allows users to measure their data speed experience and send the results to this (TRAI Analytics Portal),” the Telecom Regulatory Authority said in a statement.
The app is compatible with smartphones running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and above and is available to download at no cost. iOS users will have wait a little while before TRAI announces a launch on the appstore.
The data collected from your smartphone will be directly relayed to TRAI’s analytics portal and keep them apprised of the internet speeds throughout India.
The portal and the application will be formally launched by the regulator on July 5, the statement said. The application will also send coverage, data speed, and network information along with device and location of the customer, the statement said.
During multiple speed tests, we found that the MySpeed and Speedtest show up almost similar speed results.
What gives MySpeed an edge is the option which allows users to report poor mobile network to Trai, which will eventually help the regulator assess the service quality of an operator.
