WhatsApp now arrives at your Desktop! (Windows PC and Mac)
Fifteen months ago, WhatsApp introduced its instant messaging service to the web with WhatsApp Web. After a lot of feedback from the users, WhatsApp finally releases its app for Windows PCs and Mac computers.
Just like WhatsApp Web, the new desktop app lets you message with friends and family while your phone stays in your pocket. – WhatsApp Blog
The app is available for Windows 8/8.1/10 as well as Mac OS X 10.9+.
Here’s how you can download WhatsApp on your computer.
- Visit https://www.whatsapp.com/download from your desktop browser.
- Run WhatsAppSetup.exe
- Open the app and scan the QR code using the WhatsApp app on your phone (look for WhatsApp Web option on your phone or simply refer to the image below).
- Done. Enjoy.
The chat client – offer more native support, the ability to use keyboard shortcuts, and the ability to have messages open in a separate window as opposed to being in a browser or lost in a sea of tabs.
WhatsApp’s entrance onto the desktops of millions of its users could pose a competitive threat for other messaging apps that have done well on desktop till now, such as Slack. Slack retains a big advantage over WhatsApp when it comes to enterprise use, in that there’s little risk of enterprise users mixing up their use of Slack at the office with personal communications, as they might do with WhatsApp.
