Xiaomi may join the Android One team with Mi 5X
If you remember, Google announced Android One program back in 2014. Under the scheme, OEMs partnered with the search giant to manufacture low-cost stock Android devices.
In India, the local companies like Micromax, Karbonn, and Spice produced Android One devices and all failed to get a meaningful traction. Google tried it in other regions and pulled back too.
A recent report suggests that Xiaomi may try its hand at the Android One program. A prime reason why Android One got rejected by consumers was no OEM offered capable specs at asking price. And Xiaomi could change that. The Chinese company is known for delivering big on specs and comparatively low on the price tag. And with Google’s stock Android software, this could be match-made in heaven for many users around the world.
According to the listing, the Mi 5X may offer a 5.5-inch full HD display, dual rear camera, and dual SIM functionality out of box. Unfortunately, the launch date is still unknown. But keep your fingers crossed for the next Android O launch on August 21st. Google may shed some details about it.
