Xiaomi revealed the upcoming Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus with 18:9 display

Xiaomi is all set to announce the Redmi 5 series of smartphones at an event on Thursday in China. Ahead of its unveiling, Xiaomi’s director of product management Donovan Sung showed off the rear and front look of the device in a Tweet.

Xiaomi’s Redmi series fills up a very important segment in company’s portfolio. Both Redmi 4 and Redmi Note 4 proved extremely popular in India and reportedly helped Xiaomi to give a neck-to-neck to competition to Samsung for No.1 spot.

In many ways, Redmi 5 is a critical upgrade for Xiaomi. The company needs to retain the excellent hardware to price ratio and also need to add new features. The device shown in a picture confirms a inclusion of 18:9 taller display with small bezels. And if going by the history, Xiaomi might surprise us with the same sub $150 price tag.

The Tweet also confirms some new color options include Blue, Pink, and Black. We will know about more details at a launch event. Stay tuned for more.
