Sony Xperia X Performance & Xperia XZ to Get Android 7.0 Update in October

Sony Slovakia held a press conference earlier today and also let slip when its Xperia devices would receive the update to Android 7.0 Nougat. According to a Sony slide, the Sony Xperia XZ and X Performance will be the first devices to receive the Android N update in October 2016. The Xperia X and X Compact are expected to follow in November 2016.

According to the schedule, the above mentioned smartphones will start getting the tastiest Android version sometime next month, followed by the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact in November; the Xperia Z5 series, the Xperia Z3+ and the Z4 Tablet in December; and the Xperia XA and Xperia Ultra in early 2017.

Last year’s Xperia Z5, Z5 Premium, Z5 Compact, Xperia Z3+ (Xperia Z4), and Xperia Z4 tablet will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat in December this year. The timeline mentioned for the Android Nougat update is only for the devices with no contract, while the Xperia devices in the U.S and other western countries need to wait a little longer as the updates require carrier approval.

However, despite coming from an official branch, it would be wise to take the release times with a dose of skepticism, as Android updates typically almost always land on user devices a lot later than the dates that manufacturers announce.

The LG V20 is the world’s first smartphone to launch with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The latest Android is also available for selected Nexus and Android One smartphones.
