Essential Phone to skip Android 8.0 update

Android 8.0 Oreo was made available in October for phone companies. Before pushing the update out, most companies run a beta program. Following the same trend, the Essential PH1 has been on the beta stream for a few months now, but the official rollout might be farther away than we think.

Essential letter

Keeping the irony aside, that Essential was started by the father of Android, they announced today that they have been facing issues with the Android 8.0 update. There are stability issues that they haven’t been able to iron out, leading to them abandoning the efforts.

However, this means, they will start focussing work directly on the Android 8.1 Oreo update. Yes, we all hate delays, but this is something that even a lot of established companies struggle with. We are glad that Essential has been transparent, and will update you when the Essential phone Oreo update actually hits.
