Samsung Galaxy S9 to be announced at MWC 2018: DJ Koh

The S9, Samsung’s flagship device lineup was expected to be launched at the ongoing CES 2018. At the same event, Samsung Mobile chief DJ Kho confirmed its launch at MWC this year. He also spoke about an expected release of the foldable phone sometime next year.

Rumours & Expectations

There have been a lot of leaks and speculations regarding S9’s design language and quite a few leaks have been taking the rounds. There is no major redesign with Samsung sticking to curved displays and high screen to body ratio. The fingerprint may be positioned elsewhere to eliminate the chin on the bottom. Whereas in the storage department, it is expected to provide expansion upto 512GB. We can also expect two variants as tradition is with Samsung’s flagship devices; Samsung’s in-house Exynos processor and Snapdragon 845 processor.

While core hardware specs will obviously see an overhaul, it’s being said that the Galaxy S9+ may have a whopping 512GB storage variant for select markets. Back in December, Samsung announced that it had started mass production of the first 512 GB flash storage. A few weeks back Samsung also announced the Exynos 9810 Chipset that is even faster and better than the current 8895 chipsets powering Note8. Though it is manufactured on the same 10nm FinFET architecture, it houses different specifications that will make the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ even better than the Galaxy Note8.

Samsung has been making multiple variants of it’s S series smartphones for quite some time now. The ones sold in America are powered by the latest Qualcomm processor while other regions receive the Exynos unit. We are also looking forward to seeing the new Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensor that will sit below thick displays to provide an invisible ‘under the display’ fingerprint scanner.

Reports have also suggested that Samsung could finally change the location of the fingerprint scanner and place it under the camera sensors unlike beside it like the S8. When it comes to display, there have been rumours that Samsung has further cut down on the chins giving a screen-to-body ratio as high as 90%.

MWC (Mobile World Congress) takes place between 26th February and 1st March in Barcelona, Spain.
