KGI: 2018 iPhone line-up to ditch home button, two AMOLED variant on the way
We have yet to finish a month in 2018 and the smartphone market is already filling up with this year’s iPhone rumors. Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has an excellent track record with iPhone predictions and today he has shared some view on 2018 models.
First up, Apple is going with three models this year. One with 6.1-inch LCD display is expected to be the cheapest option with $700-$800 price tag. While the other two models will come with a 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch AMOLED display. KGI estimates a 50% of total sales for 6.1-inch LCD variant due to the affordability compared to the more expensive AMOLED options.
The LCD variant will come with 2900 mAh battery while the 5.8-inch AMOLED one will feature a 2700 mAh L-shaped battery from Unimicron. And as expected, the largest one 6.5-inch variant will rock a 3300 mAh battery. The LCD version may feature an aluminum back, meaning no wireless charging and the other two model will add a glass panel in back.
The report suggests that Apple may remove the home button from all the models and will go for Face ID as an only option to unlock the phone.
