OnePlus 6T confirmed to have an in-display fingerprint scanner
How much will I get, if I sell my OnePlus 6?
There have been few weeks when OnePlus does not get featured in news. It’s mainly been for positive reasons this year, and it is now time for the OnePlus 6T to take over the reins from the OnePlus 6. In an email to CNET, OnePlus confirmed that the upcoming device will have a fingerprint scanner under the display, and their version will be called Screen Unlock.
This screenshot shared along with the article shows a display very similar to the OnePlus 6 with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a symbol for Screen Unlock on the bottom. How this technology works is that there is an optical sensor under the display, that shines a bright light when the finger is placed on the scanner. That ‘reflection’ is read by the fingerprint scanner which then unlocks your phone. Due to this rather lengthy process, in-display fingerprint scanners have been slower than conventional scanners. Though OnePlus did mention that they omitted this on their previous phones as it was not fast enough, which could mean that they have figured that out for the 6T.

The screenshot is dated for October 17th (indeed a Wednesday), which could very well be the launch date of this new phone. There is no confirmation on that, but we speculate there to be no other reason for a random date to be present on this image. The OnePlus 6 was launched in mid-May, so this phone comes just after 6 months of their current best selling phone, to all the OnePlus 6 user’s dismay… This phone will compete with the upcoming phones like the Google Pixel 3XL, iPhone XS, and Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
Other details that are almost confirmed for the Oneplus 6T include a tiny waterdrop notch on the top of the display, a Snapdragon 845 SoC with 6GB or 8GB of RAM, possibly a bigger battery and some rumors also pointed towards a triple camera setup, but that seems unlikely to me. The phone will also bring better support for North American LTE bands with other carrier specific deals. We expect the phone to be 5G ready too.
We will keep you updated about the OnePlus 6T as soon as they surface. We are really excited to know more about the phone, but I guess we will have to wait for at least a month. Enjoy this box till then:
