Panasonic Eluga Ray X and Ray Max launched with AI Arbo

Panasonic added two phones to its Eluga series, the Eluga Ray X & the Eluga Ray Max in India.

To differentiate itself from the crowded budget segment, Panasonic has solely marketed these phones on their virtual assistant ‘Arbo’. Although, both these phones will receive the ‘Arbo’ update a week or two after its launch.

Like most other virtual assistants, Arbo uses machine learning to provide intelligent usage suggestions to users. It will monitor usage patterns of consumers and accordingly provide intelligent suggestions to change settings or prompt usage of certain applications according to time and place. Panasonic also noted that they plan to use ‘Arbo’ for all their upcoming smartphones.

Now that the meat and potatoes of these phones is talked about, let’s move on to the actual phone.

Both the phones sport a unibody metal design and will be painted in Gold, Rose Gold, and Space Grey.

Eluga Ray Max

Let’s get to the Eluga Ray Max, which sports a 5.2’ full-HD display with cornering Gorilla Glass 3. The phone is powered by the 1.4 Ghz octa-core Snapdragon 430 SoC coupled with 4GB Ram. The phone comes in storage variants of 32GB and 64GB which can further be expanded via microSD support upto 128 GB.

The 4G-enabled phone sports a 16 MP dual-led primary camera with a wide-angled 8 MP front camera and front flash. It also sports a fingerprint sensor on the front of the phone. The phone still runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 out of the box. The phone is powered by a 3000 mAh battery with support for Quickcharge 3.0.

Eluga Ray X

The Eluga Ray X on the other hand has a bigger 5.5’ 720p display with 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. This one’s powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek 430 SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM.  It comes with 32GB of inbuilt storage along with microSD card support upto 64GB.

It sports a 13MP primary snapper along with a 5MP front snapper and has a 4000 mAh battery owing to its bigger size. Even the Ray X sports a fingerprint scanner on the front and runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 like its elder brother.

On the connectivity front both phones include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, FM radio with RDS, and Micro-USB with OTG support. Both phones also boast of  accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, proximity sensor, and temperature sensor.

The Eluga Ray Max is priced at 11,499 32GB storage and at Rs. 12,499 for the 64GB storage whereas the Eluga Ray X comes with a price tag of 8,999. Both the phones will be exclusively available on Flipkart from 1st April.

Even though the virtual assistant Arbo might set it apart from the other phones in this category it will still face some stiff competition from companies like Moto and Redmi.
