Xiaomi Mi Max with MIUI 8 launched in India

Today, Xiaomi launched company’s biggest ever Mi Max smartphone in India. Announced back in May, bringing a  coat of paint and new features in MIUI 8, Xiaomi’s own take on Android Marshmallow.

It boasts enormous 6.44 inches IPS LCD display with 1080 x 1920 resolution with a reasonable 342 PPI. The devise runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor with Adreno 510 GPU. Mi Max comes with two variants. One with 32/64 GB built in storage and 3 GB of RAM while the other one with 128 GB of storage/4 GB RAM combo. Micro-SD slot is available too.

The photography is handled by 16 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual LED flash. It covers all the basics like geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama and HDR mode. The selfie shooter comes with 5 MP resolution. Like its name and size, Mi Max seals a huge juice power at 4850 mAh. Unlike Mi 5, Mi Max mounts fingerprint scanner on the back of the device. Due to its big size and battery capacity, Mi Max weights at 206g.

The dual-SIM handset supports 4G LTE with VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/ A-GPS with GLONASS, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac with Mimo. There’s no NFC on board. It is backed by a massive 4850mAh battery, measures 173.1×88.3×7.5mm, and weighs in at 203 grams.

The Mi Max sports an infrared emitter to act as a universal remote control, apart from an ambient light sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer, and proximity sensor.

Xiaomi also announced 3 months of free movies and 1 year of unlimited music on Hungama Play for the first 1 million Mi Max, Mi 5, and Redmi Note 3 users. Free Batman vs. Superman movie streaming for first 10,000 Mi Max users.

Running Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 with company’s own MIUI 8 out of the box. MIUI 8 is actually a pretty huge update. You can read about it in details here. The device comes with three colour options – Black, White and Gold.  

The device will be available in two variants, a Snapdragon 650 variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage for INR 14,999 ($222) and a Snapdragon 652 variant with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage for INR 19,999 ($296). The phone will be available through an open sale starting July 13 from Mi.com, Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal, and Paytm.
