Xiaomi RedMi Note 5 to have dual cameras and 18:9 display
I can already feel this becoming the next budget king
Historically, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Note 4 have been the best selling phones in India, in the said price segment. This isn’t surprising considering that they offer solid performance and endurance for mid-range prices. There were rumors of renaming the line-up, but that hasn’t stopped the leaks from flowing in. Today we get some pretty accurate mockups of the Redmi Note 5.
The biggest observations are the presence of an 18:9 display, a first for Xiaomi’s budget lineup, along with a dual camera setup on the back, above the fingerprint scanner. This is supposed to be a 16MP primary shooter along with a 5MP depth sensor. The screen-to-body ratio also seems to be above average, with a 2160×1080 panel, spread across 6″.
On the inside, the mid-range Snapdragon 636 with 4GB Ram. The battery will be above 4,000mAh, which is more than most current flagships. The SD636 technically does support QuickCharge 4, but it’s unlikely that we see it get featured. We are hoping that the headphone jack stays, and we move to a USB type-C. The phone should retail around INR 15,000/ US$ 240/ CNY 1,499 and have 3 colours at launch. We could see the Redmi Note 5 get launched at MWC in Barcelona
