After weeks of building the hype, OnePlus has finally announced a new product line called OnePlus Nord and it’ll be targeting the midrange segment. With Nord, OnePlus aims to bring the “premium OnePlus” experience to more users.
After starting a private Instagram account a few days ago, OnePlus shared a new video titled “New Beginnings” documenting its journey to launch the OnePlus Nord product line. It’s a four-part video series, and the next part will be released on July 7.
OnePlus says Nord will cost less than $500. This is the first time after OnePlus 6 that they’ll be releasing a phone that costs less than $500. In recent years, OnePlus has emerged as a premium smartphone brand. However, it started out with aggressive pricing and eye-popping marketing campaigns like the — “Flagship Killer”.
OnePlus X was the company’s first attempt to make a budget phone, but the company failed miserably. Although they were able to sell quite a few units, it wasn’t received very well and since then the company practically abandoned software support for the phone too quickly.
Nord will first launch in Europe and India, and there’s already a blind pre-order sale happening on Instagram. It’s not making its way to North America though. It’s still uncertain if it’s going to launch there, and if it does, it’ll only be after a highly limited beta program. OnePlus aims to compete against Xiaomi, Realme, Samsung, and Moto, whose value for money smartphones dominate the budget market.
