Nubia Red Magic 3 is a gaming phone on steroids

The Nubia Red Magic Gaming 3 was unveiled in China just yesterday and the phone has everything you probably wished your phone did so that it could offer a better gaming experience. The phone is Nubia’s third attempt at making a gaming phone and it’s no doubt its best try.

We’ll start out with the design and specifications and then see what makes the phonea commendable one for all your PUBG and Fortnite sessions.

Nubia Red Magic 3 Design

The Nubia Red Magic 3 builds on its previous iterations and offers an industrial build that is quite unlike anything else on the market. The back of the phone has the company’s signature V-shape design and the hexagonal camera cutout.

But this time around, the phone’s back is more curved that provides better grip and comfort during gameplay. More interestingly, the phone gets an air vent just below the camera that helps the phone cool down during intense gaming sessions.

In terms of colours, you can get hold of the phone in black and red. But if you have a better taste, I’m pretty sure you won’t be able to resist on opting for the uber-cool camouflage variant (with RED ACCENTS!) and the new Red-Blue gradient option.

The phone has an enormous 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 2340×1080 Ful lHD+ display and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. This display doesn’t support any kind of notch, just the kind one would want for an uninterrupted gaming experience.

What makes this display a gamer’s best friend is its refresh rate of 90Hz. For fast-paced action games, this bump in refresh rate results in a smoother experience. It also supports DC dimming, a technique used to regulate the brightness of the display, which will make the display easier on your eyes for long gaming sessions.

Nubia Red Magic 3 Performance

The top-end variant of the Red Magic 3 is probably the most powerful phone that is available in the world right now. At its heart, the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset: the Snapdragon 855.

You could probably play PUBG and Fortnite simultaneously without facing any lag issues.

This powerful processor is coupled with up to a whopping 12GB of RAM that makes it a powerhouse and perfectly suitable for heavy gaming and multitasking.

1) Nubia Red Magic 3 Cooling Fan

Yes, you read that right! Don’t pinch yourself. Nubia has managed to fit the phone with an actual fan which ensures that the phone remains 5-degrees cooler than any of its rivals.

This fan inside the phone runs at 14,000 RPM and is said to last for more than 30,000 years or about 3.5 years. This fan is made out of a nanomaterial and is extremely light. The heat is dispelled via two air vents, one of which is on the side of the phone and the other being at the back.

2) Nubia Red Magic 3 Shoulder buttons and 4D Smart Shock

The popularity of FPS and Sandbox games like Modern Combat 5 and PUBG have made shoulder buttons a handy tool that gamers have wished their phones supported natively. Magic 3 has shoulder buttons on the top of the device that can improve the mobile gaming experience.

And if shoulder buttons weren’t enough, you can also map its fingerprint sensor as an additional button. Additionally, its 4D smart shock feature makes use of its vibration motors to add real-time haptic feedback in games to enhance the overall gameplay.

3) Nubia Red Magic 3 Sound & Mic

Admittedly, sound output and the quality of microphones also play a big role in delivering a great gaming experience. The phone now has a noise-cancelling gaming microphone to improve audio input.

On the front, the phone houses a 3D surround sound dual speaker setup that supports DTS 7.1 Channel. If you prefer using headphones, there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack too.

4) Nubia Red Magic 3 Dock Support

The phone also adds support for dock pins on its left side. This can be used to attach various accessories specially designed for the phone. Out of all, the Red Magic e-Sports box is one that adds support for something very unique.

This e-Sports box sports a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C port for charging and, wait for it, an ETHERNET PORT for wired internet access! Yes, you can take advantage of consistent and high network speeds for your online gaming sessions.

If you thought the wow factor of the phone ended with the previous paragraph, wait till you hear about its camera. The phone has a single 48-megapixel IMX586 sensor at the back that is capable of shooting 8K videos! While we’re not sure how good the phone will be at doing this, 8K is indeed mental!

The phone is also the first phone ever to support 1920FPS super slow-mo recording. Until now, phones like the Samsung Galaxy S10 and the Huawei P30 could only shoot up to 960FPS.

The Nubia is no slouch in terms of battery endurance too, at least on paper! The phone has a humongous 5,000mAh battery that comes bundled with 27W fast charging. While this isn’t the fastest charging tech we’ve seen on a phone, it’s still capable of powering an hour-long gaming session in just under 5 minutes.

The phone runs on Red Magic OS 2.0 which is based on Android Pie.
