Samsung is getting ready to push a new feature called Live Updates with its Android 16 rollout, integrated into the next version of its custom interface, One UI 8. This function is designed to show real-time updates directly on the lock screen, notification bar, or status icons, making it easier to follow ongoing actions without opening an app.
The feature was briefly shown during Google I/O, where a Galaxy S25 Ultra was used to demonstrate a food delivery tracking example. Instead of just showing a static notification, the phone displayed a segmented progress bar that updated in real time as the order moved from kitchen to delivery. It also included quick buttons to message the driver, call them, or send a tip.
Samsung plans to expand this to apps beyond food and ride-sharing. Navigation, public transport, and package tracking are likely next, depending on developer support. This will build on what One UI 7 already offered with the Now Bar but aims to be more flexible and visually direct.
The update should start rolling out sometime between late August and early September. Ahead of that, Samsung will likely open beta access through the Samsung Members app. They’re also working on making the sign-up process easier for users who want to test early builds.
Samsung says it’s also planning to bring this feature to Galaxy smartwatches, though that’s not expected before the end of 2026. The idea is to create a consistent experience across phone and watch, where important info updates on both without the user needing to dig through apps.
