The Reserve Bank of India is set to inaugurate a new data centre and an Enterprise Computing & Cybersecurity Training Institute at Info Valley-II, Jatni, near Bhubaneswar. The centre — built at a reported cost of Rs 169 crore — was described by officials as designed to meet the RBI’s computing requirements and to provide a secure, resilient and scalable computing environment for the central bank and the wider financial sector.
What the RBI facility is meant to do
The Bhubaneswar campus, named Chaitanya in some reports, will act as an additional site supporting the RBI’s critical infrastructure. Officials told Press Trust of India that the facility will host mission-critical payment and settlement systems alongside other flagship initiatives. The project is intended to strengthen operational resilience and protect financial systems by providing a backup to the RBI’s primary data centre in Navi Mumbai.
“Another new chapter will be added to Odisha’s journey of development. The visit of the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji to Odisha and the inauguration of RBI’s state-of-the-art data centre will not only strengthen the state’s digital infrastructure but also give new momentum to the security of the country’s financial data and the growth of the digital economy,” Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said.
Officials cited by Press Trust of India said the Bhubaneswar facility has been certified to the Uptime Institute Tier IV standard, which is the global benchmark for highly resilient data-centre infrastructure. The RBI already operates a data centre in Navi Mumbai; the new site at Jatni is presented as a complementary installation to bolster continuity and resilience.
Timing and inauguration
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive at Biju Patnaik International Airport around 4:10 pm on a special Indian Air Force aircraft, travel by helicopter to the Khurda helipad and then proceed by road to the RBI campus in Jatni. According to the tentative itinerary reported by PTI, the Prime Minister is likely to spend about an hour at the data centre and leave Odisha around 6:30 pm.
What is known and what is not

The reports do not provide technical capacities (such as computing power, number of racks or energy usage), nor do they specify the exact systems that will be migrated or the phased schedule for becoming fully operational. Officials described the centre and institute as part of broader efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure and cybersecurity preparedness across the financial sector.
The inauguration brings into focus the RBI’s strategy of geographic redundancy and specialised training for cybersecurity within the financial ecosystem. For regulators, banks and payment operators, a second high-grade site outside Mumbai aims to reduce concentration risk and support continuity of critical services in the event of localised disruption.
