The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a WhatsApp-based service that allows subscribers to access selected provident fund information through the messaging platform. The facility was launched on Sunday, 1 November 2026, and was announced by Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya during the EPFO’s 74th Foundation Day celebrations.
Using EPFO’s verified WhatsApp service, members can check their PF balance, view passbook information and retrieve details of their latest five transactions. The move is intended to make routine account-related services available through a familiar mobile platform, reducing the need for members to visit an EPFO office for these tasks.
What members can access
| Service | What it provides |
|---|---|
| PF balance | Access to the subscriber’s provident fund balance |
| Passbook details | Information from the member’s EPF passbook |
| Recent transactions | Details of the latest five account transactions |
| PMVBRY assistance | Personalised guidance for completing requirements under the scheme |
The WhatsApp service will also provide personalised guidance to members completing requirements under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY). The Labour Ministry said the facility forms part of EPFO’s wider effort to simplify access to its services through digital platforms. EPFO already offers similar account facilities through its web portal.
The initiative has been introduced alongside changes grouped under the EPFO 3.0 framework. One of these changes concerns eligible inoperative EPF accounts with balances of up to Rs. 1,000. Subscribers with such accounts will not have to submit individual claims to withdraw their dues, provided the prescribed identity and bank account verification is completed.
- Eligible inoperative accounts with balances of up to Rs. 1,000 can be considered for automatic settlement.
- EPFO will initiate the settlement after completing the required identity and bank account verification.
- The eligible amount will be transferred to the rightful beneficiary.
For Indian EPF subscribers, the WhatsApp facility adds another digital route for checking account information and recent activity. It is focused on routine access and scheme-related assistance, while the automatic settlement process applies only to the specific category of inoperative accounts and the verification conditions described by the Labour Ministry.
