Sony India has announced the launch of the LinkBuds Clip open-ear earbuds in India. The new model is designed to let users listen to audio while remaining aware of conversations and ambient sounds around them, with Sony positioning it for use across different everyday environments.

Unlike sealed in-ear earbuds, the LinkBuds Clip leaves the ears open. Sony said this design allows users to stay connected to music while also hearing people and activity around them. The earbuds support three listening modes, which can be changed with a double tap.

Three modes for different surroundings

The standard mode is intended to provide a balanced listening experience. Voice Boost increases speech clarity and volume for podcasts, calls and music in noisier surroundings. A third mode, Sound Leakage Reduction, is designed to reduce high-frequency sound leakage in shared environments such as trains, lifts and offices.

  • Standard mode: balanced audio for everyday listening
  • Voice Boost: enhanced speech clarity and volume
  • Sound Leakage Reduction: reduced high-frequency sound leakage in shared spaces

Sony said the earbuds produce balanced sound across genres while retaining awareness of the surrounding environment. The LinkBuds Clip also use the company’s Digital Sound Enhancement Engine, or DSEE, which is designed to restore high-frequency elements that may be lost during audio compression. The company said this is intended to bring the output closer to the original recording.

AI processing is used for calls

For voice calls, the LinkBuds Clip combine Precise Voice Pickup technology, dual microphones and AI-based signal processing. Sony said these systems work to isolate the wearer’s speech and improve voice transmission. A bone conduction sensor captures vibrations from the user’s voice and helps filter ambient noise and other background sounds.

Sony added that its AI-powered noise reduction algorithm was developed using machine learning and varied voice and ambient-sound data. The algorithm is designed to adapt to different environments during listening and calling, with the aim of making speech easier to understand.

The company has also highlighted the earbuds’ lightweight and secure construction for extended use. However, Sony India’s launch announcement does not state a price or retail availability details for the LinkBuds Clip. The product’s India announcement makes it relevant to users looking for an open-ear audio format that combines environmental awareness with software-assisted call processing.
