Swiggy has introduced battery-swapping stations and electric vehicle rentals at its Instamart pods across 25 locations, giving delivery partners access to electric two-wheelers and related infrastructure at the same points where they collect orders. The initiatives were announced on 4 November 2026 at the company’s EV Mobility Conclave, titled “Powering the Last Mile”.
The rollout is aimed at addressing operational barriers faced by delivery partners who use electric two-wheelers for last-mile deliveries. Swiggy said the new facilities are intended to reduce the time spent travelling to separate charging stations or vehicle collection points, while supporting the wider adoption of electric vehicles in delivery operations.
Battery swapping placed at order collection points
According to Swiggy, a delivery partner visits an Instamart pod approximately 20 times during a busy day. By placing battery-swapping stations at these locations, the company is linking an essential part of EV operations with the existing order collection workflow. Delivery partners can also access rental electric vehicles from the pods, although Swiggy has not disclosed the rental charges, vehicle models or the names of the ecosystem partners involved in the stations.

The battery-swapping network has been developed with ecosystem partners. Swiggy’s EV conclave brought together electric vehicle manufacturers, charging and swapping providers, rental and fleet companies, financiers and delivery partners. The discussions focused on making electric two-wheelers a practical and affordable option for last-mile work, with particular attention to financing, charging access and policy support.
“Every order has a person behind it, and the last mile is that person. Our delivery partners are at the heart of everything we do, and our vision is to make their work easier and more rewarding. For those who choose electric, that means taking away the everyday hurdles, so that the transition fits naturally into the way they already work. When a solution is built around the partner’s day rather than around the technology, adoption becomes a natural choice. That is the future we want to help build for the people who power India’s last mile.”
— Sriharsha Majety, Co-founder and Group CEO, Swiggy
Swiggy said the model is centred on fitting EV support into the delivery partner’s existing routine rather than requiring additional trips during the working day. This could make battery swapping and vehicle access more convenient for partners operating from Instamart locations, though the company has not provided figures for the number of vehicles, batteries or swapping stations included in the initial rollout.
Focus on financing and charging access
Neha Singhvi, Head of Corporate Affairs at Swiggy, said EV adoption in last-mile delivery depends on factors beyond any single platform. She identified affordable financing, reliable charging and battery swapping, and supportive policy as important enablers. The company’s conclave was also used to recognise partners working on these challenges and to bring different parts of the EV delivery ecosystem into the same discussion.
For India’s delivery sector, the announcement places charging and vehicle access alongside order fulfilment infrastructure. The immediate rollout covers 25 Instamart locations, and Swiggy has not announced a broader deployment schedule. The company also has not specified whether the battery-swapping and rental services will be available at all Instamart pods or only at selected locations.
